    Before you begin typing:
    Sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor.
    Wrists should be straight and your forearms level.
    Elbows should be relaxed and close to your body.

Start with the home row keys:   A   S   D   F       J   K   L   ;

Place your left-hand fingers on their assigned home row keys:   A   S   D   F
    Little finger rests on the   a key.
    Ring finger rests on the     s key.
    Middle finger rests on the d key.
    Index finger rests on the   f key.

Place your right-hand fingers on their assigned home row keys:   J   K   L   ;
    Little finger rests on the   ; key.
    Ring finger rests on the     l key.
    Middle finger rests on the k key.
    Index finger rests on the   j key.

Use your thumb to press the space bar once at the end of a word.
Use the correct finger to strike a key.

Free Typing Tutor Tips

Use correct finger.   Follow the finger - keystroke position shown in the picture.

Placement.   Always return your finger to its assigned home row key.

Concentrate.   Think about what finger you are using.

You can do it.   With practice, you soon will be able to type like a pro.

Forget speed.   Speed and accuracy will improve after you learn the correct finger - keystroke reaches.

Your brain is the key.   Touch typing requires practice. It takes time and practice for our brain to be able to train your fingers.

Type without looking at the keys.   Strike each key with a quick stroke. Then return your fingers to their assigned home row keys.

Speed typing.   After completion of the home row keys, type at a speed faster than comfortable.

Practice! Practice! Practice!   Practice is required to develop nimble fingers.

Smile!   Yes a smile can help. It makes learning fun and reduces tensions with this online free typing tutor.

Flat feet.   Poor posture changes the angle of your hands to the keyboard. This increases errors.

Reduce glare.   Glare on the monitor results in squinting which strains your eyes. Change the tilt of the screen if needed.

Think.   Think about using the correct finger to strike a key.

Move only the fingers needed.   Only move the one finger needed to strike a key. Do not allow other fingers to wander away from their assigned home row keys. This is awkward at first and will require will power, but you can do it.

Your brain.   Let your brain train your fingers. Just concentrate on what you are doing.

Use the correct finger keystroke.   Study the pictures to know which finger to use. Whisper each letter before striking the key. Get the most you can out of this free on line tping tutor.

Check your hands.   Your fingers should be on the home row keys and your hands should slant at the same angle as the keyboard. Do not let your wrists become lazy and rest against the desk or the keyboard.

Re-key an exercise if you are not satisfied.   After keying the beginning exercises, using the correct finger should be automatic. If you still have to look at the keyboard when you strike a particular key, rerun the exercise.

Make adjustments.   Check your distance from the keyboard. Adjust your chair when necessary to avoid a common problem - that of sitting too close to the keyboard.
